🎂 Life chooses life
❤️🔥 What devotion grows
Dear all,
Happy Capricorn Full Moon.
On this moon to celebrate long-term commitment and seasonal completion, I’m looking back at the seeds I’ve been planting and realizing... it’s harvest season.
Some harvests take fourteen years.
This birthday, one of mine finally arrived.
After fourteen years of following my heart through uncertainty, reinvention, paperwork, countless visas, and faith, I finally received my green card / permanent residency in the United States.
Whatever seeds you’ve been quietly tending, I hope this reminds you that devotion has a way of becoming visible.
I’m also celebrating Pride today with something that’s been quietly growing for years: Queer Chemistry: Pleasure, Desire & Play Beyond Shame, a creative somatic workshop in collaboration with Mei born from many years of making art, healing, and returning to my body.
Keep planting.
Keep watering.
Keep composting.
Keep beginning again.
One day you’ll look around and realize you’re standing in the very garden you’ve been tending all along.
❤️ SEEDS:
🌱 What I’m building today will become the home my future self thanks me for. Every small act of devotion matters.
🌱 My erotic energy is not something to tame. I can channel it into art, intimacy, friendship, movement, leadership, and joy.
🌱 I stop asking, “Am I enough?” and start asking, “What makes me come alive?” I choose environments, relationships, and work that nourish my mind, body and spirit. I no longer confuse survival with belonging.
I GOT MY GREENCARD BY FOLLOWING MY HEART
On my birthday, I poured my heart out and finally shared the story of my green card interview in Guangzhou with my parents by my side.
YESSSSS.
After fourteen years, I officially became a permanent resident in the United States through the EB-1 extraordinary ability category.
Looking back, I realize every scary decision I’ve made was really life choosing more life.

LIFE CHOOSES LIFE
I started finding queer media very early and realized I wasn’t straight when I was 11.
I remember having a dream where I whispered my secret into a deep dark well, promising no one would ever know.
When I was 25, I shared that memory in my coming-out video letter to my parents.
That letter unexpectedly traveled far beyond me. It was featured by The New York Times, shown in museums and galleries, and, more importantly, reached countless people who told me they finally felt seen.
It's wild that the part of me I tried hardest to hide became one of the deepest bridges to other people.
Now at 36, I don’t feel ashamed of being queer anymore.
But I’m still untangling the somatic memories where shame and desire became intertwined.
I’ve come to see shame and fear differently.
They’re not enemies.
They’re old protectors that once kept us safe.
When we meet them with curiosity instead of judgment, they slowly become doorways back to aliveness.
Lately I’ve realized something.
Every meaningful thing I’ve created began with a feeling I didn’t know what to do with.
Loneliness became community.
Shame became storytelling.
Being unseen became portrait-making.
The longing for belonging became Multimedia Love Letter.
And now...
Desire is becoming Queer Chemistry.
Desire and erotic power have been quietly weaving through my birthday newsletters for years.
Last year, I planted:
🌱 Like water, my desires are a natural force; I let them flow freely, attracting pure prosperity and pleasure. - (Love Letter to myself, 2024)
Two years ago, I planted:
🌱 Our erotic power is sacred. It is safe for us to feel, express, and channel it freely into creation and joy. - (Would you meet me undone, 2025)
Reading them again, I smiled.
Maybe this workshop has been growing long before I knew it.
Queer Chemistry is simply the next flower.
Together with another powerful Asian queer cross-border creator Mei, we’ll use somatic practices, creative expression, and collective witnessing to transform shame into curiosity, desire into creative force, and pleasure into a practice of coming home to ourselves.
If you’ve been longing to reconnect with your body, your imagination, your aliveness—
I’d love to welcome you.
It begins in just a few hours.

If this past year taught me anything, it’s this:
Life keeps rewarding the parts of us brave enough to stay alive.
Thank you for tending this garden with me.
With love from the in-between,
Meng

What a gorgeous update. Huge congratulations! Also, reserving my spot for the next queer chem workshop! Looks amazing.
